There are quite a number of BASIC derivatives. I've listed 2 popular ones: * Visual Basic, now known as Visual Studio - very comprehensive, and also rather expensive ($1000+). There is an Express version of Visual Studio known as Visual Studio Express Editions, which are 100% free, at the expense of some functionality. * FreeBASIC - a Free and Open Source effort to create a 100% QB-compatible compiler while also maintaining a functional interface to the host (Windows/Linux) OS's system functions (the Windows API on Windows and syscalls on Linux).
