it is true that both President Johnson and President Nixon wanted to get America out of Vietnam. It did not happen until 1974 when the North Vietnamese took control of Hanoi. This was the end to the war and American troops were ordered home.

Without abandoning the South Vietnamese
Johnson wanted their support for his Vietnam War Policy.
President Johnson wanted to respond to a North Vietnamese attack on an American warship.
No US President wanted to be the FIRST to lose a war.
President Johnson did NOT like the Vietnam War; He didn't like to talk about it, he didn't want to hear about it, and he didn't want "...to send American Boys to fight a war that Asian Boys should be fighting..." to quote one of his televised broadcasts. Johnson wanted to concentrate on HOME MATTERS; primarily his "Great Society." Vietnam angered him so much, he refused to remain President of the United States after his first term expired.
LBJ entered Vietnam because he wanted to make sure South Vietnam did not fal to communism. He felt that we were a large enough superpower to overcome Vietnam in a short amount of time. He obviously was wrong.
well president Lincoln wanted to end slavery but on the other hand president Johnson wanted to keep it.
He wanted to prevent a Communist takeover of Southeast Asia
He hated it, wanted no part of it, and refused to be re-elected because of it.
Nixon liked football, he played to win. Johnson wanted to create a "Great Society" of peace, education and equal rights. Johnson "Hated" the Vietnam War. He refused to remain president anymore because of it. Nixon was ready to play "hard-ball", and he did.
President Johnson used the Gulf of Tonkin incident to deepen American involvement in Vietnam. And as early as February 1965, U.S. planes began to bomb North Vietnam. American troop strength in Vietnam increased to more than 180,000 by the end of the year and to 500,000 by 1968. ChaCha!
No. LBJ wanted nothing to do with Vietnam...it just fell on top of him and he couldn't get up from under it. He hated the war so much; he went on television to announce publicly, that he refused to run for re-election.
