When the oil pump was replaced, was the oil pickup tube cleaned also? Sometimes the tube and filter can get clogged like a brick.
Stang, yes the pick up tube was checked but appeared to be clear.
I found this on fordforums.com:
I'm not sure just when Ford went from a "real" oil pressure gauge to a idiot
light with an analog readout, but it probably was late 80s for the truck lines.
If there's a button type sender at the oil pressure output port, it's a fake
gauge that closes a switch around 7 psi and then reopens it at say, 5 psi. Put a
mechanical gauge on the oil pressure port and see if the readings are consistent
with the factory "gauge". If so, you have problems, ranging from a dirty sump
(oil pickup screen gets clogged) to worn main bearings or crankshaft. If not,
it's the gauge itself, the sender, or the sender wiring.

Thank you, ever so much. I'll let you know the outcome.
Yes, and when it does it must be replaced as it is defective.
PERHAPS THE PROBLEM LIES SOMEPLACE ELSE. IT MAY BE THE GAUGE ITSELF OR A WIRING PROBLEM.
Low oil pressure or a defective oil pressure sending unit.
The original answer is incorrect. The low oil level sensor is located where the original answer states. The oil pressure sending unit is a separate part. The sending unit is located on the left rear top of the engine, behind the intake manifold mounted into the top of the block.
The oil pressure sending unit is on the back side of the motor on the left side and its not to hard and not to easy!!
Chevy's are known for this problem, i just recently had the same problem and what you need to do is replace the fuel sending unit. My original problem had to do with my fuel pump not working and i wasn't really worried about the gauge but we figured since we had the tank down we might as well swap the sending unit and my gauge starting working. Good luck
most likely a sending unit problem
had a problem with my 2001 impala 3.8. dealer said it temperature sending unit, then water pump neither fixed the problem. finally replaced the thermaostat and that worked. don't know if that is your problem but may be something to think about.
Either the oil pump on the vehicle has failed which is highly unlikely. More than likely the oil pressure sending unit is defective. Replace the sending unit and if the problem is still there seek professional help. Do not drive this vehicle until you solve the problem.
Usually it is NOT a problem with the sending unit. Low oil pressure is typically caused by worn rod and/or main bearings. This is typically caused by poor engine maintenance. THIS IN FACT TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD OIL SENDING UNIT. BY THE WAY THE THIS ENGINE IS MAINTAINED PROPERLY. Check for loose grounds to engine. There are several. My 2001 Aurora has had sevral oil pressure transducers replaced. Just recently right after another was replaced the car was on the rack at the AC mechanics shop. He noticed an arcing ground to the engine. It is possible that the electricl surging has been burning out the semiconductor in the transducer. The same mechanic found a broken ground to the compressor clutch and a leaking AC sensor. Fixed them all and the AC works! Hope he also fixed the oil pressure sender problem.
Low oil pressure, or the oil pressure sending unit is defective. If the oil level is full, then the oil pump is weak or the sending unit is bad. Replace the oil pressure sending unit and see if that solves the problem. If not, seek professional help. Do not continue to drive the car in this condition.
check the wiring to the speedometer. Check the sending unit as well. If the problem is internal then the speedometer will have to be replaced.
