Try using old key turn from "Off to on" not starting car 7 times--remove and insert new key use same procedure--then try to start w/new key. If you have 2 "old" keys do the same thing with 2nd old key before using new

Most modern GM vehicles have a transponder in the key that prevents the starter from engaging without it. To get a new key you need to get a factory key from your dealer or an aftermarket source, then program the vehicle to accept it. Instructions on programing are generally included with the new key.

If you lost your keys, you will have to get a locksmith to help you out. You might get lucky and find a key in the owner's manual that will be the right key for the doors. The ignition key is probably passlock and that will have to be dealt with by the nearest GM dealership.

Key blanks are widely available for prices around $10.00, and can be cut from a good key by any locksmith or key cutting service. If your vehicle requires a transponder or passkey, they are available at GM dealers for around $50.00. They will also charge a half hour of labor to cut the key and reprogram the car's ignition to suit the new key.

Sometimes if you take your serial number from your truck into a GM or Chevy dealership they can make you a new key for your truck. It might cost a little but it is cheaper than changing your key barrels.
