As you havent really given much information, I'm going to assume that when you say "converse" you mean talking instead of a pair of Chuck Taylors...
Programs to talk over the internet are easy to find when you look for them, if you mean audio/video based (webcam and mic) then you need a program like Skype which is free to use and very powerful yet simple. If you would like a text based program i would consider signing upto either Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger or GMail Messenger, they are all free to join (including Skype) and all powerful tools.
Hope this helps,

This is not a Converse only store but it is a warehouse and they do carry converse...it is called Warehouse Shoe Sale. Here is the website...click on "locations" and a list of 34 different stores in California will pop up. Good luck.

Internet Browsers, Office programs, games...

This sounds confusing but perhaps the other programs you are referring to are 'broken'. If you can access the internet on Firefox, you should be able to access the internet on all internet-based programs (especially other internet browsers such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome). Perhaps you need to reinstall (i.e. uninstall and then install again) the programs which are not working. You should also check your internet service provider to see if you actually are getting a strong enough internet signal (unless you are using an Ethernet cable).
Programs like Firefox and Internet Explorer are web browsers or internet browsers used to access world wide web.
