A rattle in the rear on the Protege after new strut mounts and sway bars were put in might be due to the fact that the bolts are not tight enough. Bolts that are not tight enough will allow the ball joint to hop. This is very dangerous.
I don't know why your front end rattles, only my back end rattles. XD
I have an 03 T&C that had rusted brake pads on the rear that caused a rear end rattle.
If its a ka thunk sound even on small bumps,Its most likely your STRUT MOUNTS.
Wow - where to start!!?? So many possibilities. Just describing it as "rattles" is SO non-specific it could be anything.Loose items in the passenger compartment. Poorly stowed jacking equipment or tools. Spare tire isn't cranked up and tightly stowed against the body. Broken or worn out struts or shock absorbers. Broken engine mounts. Etc. If you EVER have a question about the safety of a vehicle take it to a shop or mechanic and remove all doubt.
When an engines motor mounts go bad the vibration is felt throughout the entirety of the car. The motor mounts should be inspected to see if the rubber inserts are cracked.
Loose shock mount or bearing? Loose component in exhaust system? Also, check all your ball joints. Changing the anti roll bar links fixed my rattle.
Sounds like the strut tower mounts are worn out.
To cure brake rattle replace the caliper pins with new ones do both sides and be sure to lubricate the new pins with high temp silicon brake lube.
check all 4 of your shock mounts or check the stabiliser links
try to tighten all the bolts on the strut mounts and double check
The brackets that hold the brake pads in place are worn and are allowing the pads to rattle.
Sounds like the shock bushings are worn out are loose.
