You read the trouble codes on the dsahboard "engine check" light. To get the codes out you connect two black, single wire connectors under the dash near the steering column while the ignition is turned off, then turn the key on and the light should flash a code. Either with a scan tool, or by cycling the key on, off, on, off, on and reading the number that comes up in the odometer.
