I don't have a manual for my 04' XR 250, but when I took it by a motorcycle mechanic recently for a tire stem valve problem, he told me 10 to 15 lbs is good pressure for trail riding. 10 lbs is what he filled it to, and it seemed sufficient for our day of riding that followed.
According to my Clymer service repair manual, the original 1985 -87 Fourtrax 250 tire sizes are: Front = 21 x 7.0 -10, Rear=25 x 12.0 -9
