what got Europe out of the Dark Ages was when the Crusades went to Israel to get Jerusalem back from the Muslims. While they were traveling, they saw art and music, and they wanted to start traveling more, which led to the Renaissance.

Dark ages refers to a perceived period of cultural and economic deterioration and disruption occurred n Europe following the decline of the Roman Empire. originally the term referred to the bulk of the middle ages between the extinguishing of the light of Rome and the Renaissance or the rebirth in the 14th century onwards. There are other thoughts by various scholars on it to do with religion and also literature so further research is needed for fuller answer
