You have to remove the air inlet, hose, and Mass Airflow Sensor (very delicate). Then remove the upper fan shroud, and then the fan (special tools required, it screws on). Then remove the serpentine belt, pull the pulley off the Power Steering pump (more special tools required), and remove the pump mounting bolts (3). If air conditioned, remove the four bolts holding the compressor to the bracket, and the little brace off to the passenger side. Hold this up using a bungee cord or something, DO NOT DISCONNECT THE A/C LINES. Remove the bolt for the oil filler tube, then you can remove the 4 bolts and 1 stud holding the mounting bracket to the block and remove the bracket. There is one stud on the side of the block behind the PS pump for the pump brace, loosen this about 5 turns (brace is slotted). Remove the clamp from the return line and pull it off the pump, then remove the pressure line from the brake booster (follow it up from the pump, this is easier than trying to get a wrench down there on an AWD).
Then you can maneuver the pump out with the pressure line attached and remove it on the bench.
This job takes 3 hours for a skilled mechanic, and the special tools to remove the fan and power steering pump pulley. Everything is Metric, you'll need an 18mm wrench for the booster line, and a 16mm wrench for the pump end.Good luck.

Remove the water supply hose from your 1987 Chevy Astro thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the old thermostat and drive in the new thermostat.
There are two, one for each front wheel, mounted to the steering knuckle. Look for an electrical wire leading down to the brake backing plate.
what weight of oil do i use in my 1994 Chevy astro all wheel drive differential and transfer case
I converted my power steering equipped 84 Firebird to manual steering by using a manual steering box from a Chevy S10 pick-up. It was a simple bolt in replacement. And of course you have to use a shorter accessory drive belt after removing the pump. Steering effort when car is moving is not bad at all. Parking is another story, especially with 245/50 tires!
i have a 95 Chevy astro van.what would cause the all wheel drive to work sometimes but not all the time?
You should check the fluid level in the power steering pump.
It is possible to drive a Chevy Trailblazer with no power steering. However, it isn't recommended. The steering column could freeze and there could be no way to steer the car.
NO. It is a front wheel drive, (FWD) with front wheel steering only.
