It is unlikely that you will need a new engine but it will be an extensive overhaul I would expect. Almost certainly all the inlet and exhaust valves will need replacing which means having the cylinder head off. You will probably find some marking to the piston crowns but that is generally minor. Normally it is a fairly routine job to regrind the valves and re-assemble. The critical part is getting the timing right on everything when fitting a new cam belt. Also check the type of cam belt before replacing it as, depending on the age and model, the cam belt can have different shaped teeth - early models had rounded teeth, later ones square teeth and the belts are not interchangeable.
