I have been having the same problem and the first time I also replaced the starter (battery was already OK). Seemed fine for a while then it happened again. And by the way, when I first replaced the starter, the old one checked out fine but since I had the car all torn apart, I replaced the old starter anyway. Happened again, and took the starter out and it checked out fine. Reinstalled, started 2 times right away. Then later, wouldn't start but just did the one click thing like you've described. Several hours later, started right up and has continued to start right up even though I am not driving the car because now I don't trust it. But I am now in pursuit of the neutral/safety switch which I have come to find out causes the same exact symptom as a bad starter. Haven't gotten it out yet but I understand its position is ADJUSTABLE and I think that's where the problem. I have gotten the first bolt out for the switch and I noticed it wasn't TIGHT. That slight shifting from the action of the shift cable is probably the culprit.
most likely tha starter is bad or the power to the starter is bad
usually you can tell when your car doesnt turn or or doesnt turn over its because of your starter sometimes its not the starter it could be a low battery or corroded wires leading to the starter check that first;
Most often it is the starter and not the ignition.
Seized engine? Loose or cooroded battery terminal Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
You may have a fuel problem, check the fuel filter and fuel pump.
You mean a ticking sound while TRYING to start a jeep? If the jeep doesnt start and is making this noise then either it doesnt have enough amps to start or the starter is bad. You can have the battery tested for free at autozone. It could also be that your alterntor isn't charging the battery also.
the battery or the starter could be bad. the vats system could be activated. let me know.
you can try to short the starter motor . take a screw driver and bridge ffrom battery cable on starter to ignition wire on starter. if starter is good, engine will crank. if starter is bad , solenoid will click if no clicking, solenoid is bad
Ignition switch going bad, corroded or loose battery cables, starter relay or starter going bad.
no if the car doesnt start check the battery and the alternator and the starter.
replaced battery and now remote doesnt work . how do you reprogram remote
Loose battery cable? Bad starter? ( checkwires on starter) Bad starter solenoid? Bad Neutral or clutch safety switch?
