Respiration is basically what keeps living things alive. There are 2 forms of respiration aerobic (oxygen based) and anaerobic (non-oxygen based). Aerobic respiration is more efficient, but anaerobic respiration evolved first because when life first appeared earth had no oxygen. The purpose of respiration is to extract energy from the simple sugars and fats extracted from food when it is digested.

Respiration is very important because energy can only be formed though it.

Respiration also removes waste [co2] from the body.

Respiration is the only process from which oxygen can be acquired which in turn is used to break down glucose completely into carbon dioxide and water.

Since, diffusion process cannot take oxygen, respiration is the only way to take air in and give out.

The respiratory system is made up of lungs and related parts in your body that allow you to breathe; meaning to take in oxygen and to release the carbon dioxide to out side .
