Nobody knows what the cause of SIDS is, there are a few ways you can prevent it. One way is to have your baby sleep on their side. Most people want their baby to sleep on their backs, but this is not good because if the baby spits up in it's sleep he/she can choke on the spit-up. There are other ways to prevent it, but you will have to do some internet searching to find out.

Alan Phillips, Director of

Citizens for Healthcare Freedom states:

"Studies internationally have shown vaccination to be a cause of SIDS , (SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is a "catch-all" diagnosis given when the specific cause of death is unknown; estimates range from 5,000 to 10,000 cases each year in the US).

One study found the peak incidence of SIDS occurred at the ages of 2 and 4 months in the US, precisely when the first two routine immunizations are given, while another found a clear pattern of correlation extending three weeks after immunization.

Another study found that 3,000 children die within 4 days of vaccination each year in the US (amazingly, the authors reported no SIDS/vaccine relationship), while yet another researcher's studies led to the conclusion that at least half of SIDS cases are caused by vaccines.

Initial studies suggesting a causal relationship between SIDS and vaccines were quickly followed by vaccine-manufacturer-sponsoredstudies concluding that there is no relationship between SIDS and vaccines; one such study claimed that there was a slightly lower incidence of SIDS in vaccines.

However, many of these studies were called into question by yet another study that found "confounding" had erroneously skewed the results of these studies in favor of the vaccine.

At best, there is conflicting evidence."

There are no known causes for SIDS: It is sudden, and unpredictable.

Do researchers think that sleep paralysis may be a cause of death to SIDS? Because SIDS can occur to an infant sleeping on his/her stomach or back. Think about when adults has sleep paralysis and its hard for us to move and fight it and babies may not have the strength to fight off sleep paralysis and this may cause them to die?

I would take issue with the above. While there is still some mystery about SIDS, there is evidence that toxic crib materials, and upper neck problems ("subluxation" or "somatic dysfunction") may play a part. Incidentally, infants ARE more at risk when sleeping face-down. In other places in the world, such as Australia, this condition is known as "crib death."

One study found a correlation between the position of the first cervical vertebra -- the atlas -- and SIDS. The reason that upper cervical problems may cause SIDS is that problems with this part of the spine may easily have an impact on the respiratory center in the brain-stem. With a RC dysfunction, the autonomic respiratory response would be weak or absent. Then, sleeping on ones tummy would tend to further limit the amount of air getting to the lungs. The emphasis has been on respiratory function, though other basic autonomic controls, such as heartbeat regulation may be impacted too. Obviously, if an infant has no heartbeat and insufficient oxygen, life will cease.

Perhaps another example will serve to further clarify this issue. In chiropractic patients with hypertension (high blood-pressure), manipulation of the cervical spine will frequently result in a ten point reduction in (systolic) blood-pressure. That is pretty dramatic when you think about it. Thus, the condition of the upper spine can play a major role in maintaining overall health of an individual.

Here is a final example. In the old days, when a convicted criminal was executed by hanging, what killed him primarily was not asphyxiation (choking) as you might think. It was the due to the "dens," a part of the second cervical vertebra, the "axis," breaking off and being jammed into the spinal cord. This would seriously impact his fundamental life processes, and he would expire. So maybe you can grasp the parallel with an infant having an upper spinal problem and thus a respiratory problem.

If you know your neurology, you understand that the condition of the spine, as it mediates the proper functioning of the nervous system, is important and the condition of the upper cervical spine is particularly key, as it may actually spell the difference between life and death. This certainly emphasizes the importance of spinal care, including chiropractic or osteopathic treatment. Even with folks who have no specific complaint, regular spinal care could be considered essential in that it results in less tense, more completely functional people. Even more so, as we a reach middle age.

Number 1 is that DO NOT put your child in a very soft place when he/she is sleeping.

Number 2 make sure that child is sleeping on his/her back so he/she isn't suffocating.

1. Gender: Males have a constant average 50% higher SIDS rate than females. An X-linkage is the only published scientific explanation for this male excess.

2. Age: SIDS has a 4-parameter lognormal (Johnson SB) age distribution that is its unique characteristic. The maximum is at 75 days, and is the same for boys and girls.

3. Neurological prematurity decreasing with age.

4. Respiratory infection in the prodromal stage when it is not yet noticed by the caregivers. This risk increases with age and the number of siblings who act as an infection vector,

5. Physiological anemia. This is not measured at autopsy because hemoglobin measurements only are valid in living infants because of hemolysis and lividity after death. It rises from 0 at birth and peaks at about 75 days corresponding to the maximum SIDS rate.

6. Prone sleep position. Increases the risk of inhalation of exhaled breath which is rich in CO2 and lean in oxygen.

What is the cause for SIDS?

SIDS basically translates as "your baby just died for no good reason we can find." In other words, if doctors knew the cause, it wouldn't be SIDS, it would be whatever the actual cause was.

Can smoking cause SIDS?

Smoking doesn't cause SIDS. I lost a baby to SIDS in 2003 and I didn't smoke. There are remarks that it could be related but because no one knows what causes SIDS everyone just speculates. There is a strong correlation between parental smoking and SIDS.

What sids cause?

People don't know yet, but it has something to do with a baby on her stomach. Vaccine reactions cause a lot of the SIDS. Many babies cannot handle the toxins

When toddlers die from SIDS do they have marks on their heads?

Toddlers do not die of SIDS. After six months of age, SIDS is extremely rare. The acronym SIDS stands for Sudden INFANT Death Syndrome. Toddlers do not die of SIDS. Marks anywhere on the body of a dead infant would be cause for a coroners examination and possible inquiry.
