I have had to do this twice before. I don't have my Voltswagon radio installer right know so I know this is how you do it but I might be incorrect with the button name(If I had it to look at I could tell you exactly) but I'm sure you will be able to figure that part out. O.K. here goes.
1.) you push the set and mode buttons together and hold it down until you notice numbers pop up, I'm pretty sure, I do know the display will change. If I have the names of the buttons wrong they were the two left button in a cluster of six, the top and bottom buttons.
2.) Now if you have the code. button #1 is the first button in the code, button #2 is the second number of the code and so on, If the code was 1679, the #1 button you don't have to use because the first # in the code is already set for zero and one, so you would go to button #2 the second number in the example code is 6 so you would push the #2 button six times, then go to #3 button and push it seven times, the #4 button you would push nine times. ***IF and only IF the very first # of the code is a zero or a one you can skip it and go to the second # in the code, if its 2 or higher you do need to push the #1 button that number of times just like the rest of the code.
3.) The last thing you do is push the same two buttons you pushed together when you started and hold it down until you see the radio station #'s pop up.
Sorry this is a vague description how, I am telling this to you completely from memory, and like I said I Didi it twice, but I am confident that you will figure it out from this. After I did it I couldn't believe how easy it really was. All I did was googled the question "how to code a 97 Voltswagon Jetta radio" on the results was a voltswagon tech forum/blog where I found the answer. If by chance this doesn't work try googling it and I am sure you'll find the answer.

You changed your battery in your 2002 VW Jetta, and lost the radio? No Problem... (as they would say in Jamaica). If you are the legitimate owner of the car, you should have the four digit Radio unlock Code saved somewhere with the manuals or better yet, have a file at home for that (would not recommend to keep it in the glove compartment). Switch ON the radio, the "SAFE" letters will appears on your display, followed by 1000. Using your Preset Channel buttons, change the numbers to match your Unlock Code. Depress #1 is for the first digit, #2 is for the second and so on. When all four numbers are set, press the right arrow ">" on the Tuning (FF) button. This is all it takes. Enjoy Lackota
