For many who read this they are free individuals who exist by right and not by some permission by the state and they obey the natural laws of that they are subject to because freedom or not we are all subject to the universal laws of physics and even spiritual laws that govern our psyche. While we do have free will we our bound by the consequences of our actions and as such we can find our freedom restrained. Martin Luther once said of freewill it was a nomen inane, that is to say a phrase of empty words. He, of course, was preaching to those Christians who would give obedience to God. As Luther argued what good is free will if one is to accept the word of God? While the word of God remains in many ways hotly debated there are basic moral principles loud out by both the Hebrew religion of the Old Testament and the Christian religion founded on the writings of the New Testament. Obedience to the tenet of those texts is expected for those who worship in those churches. For Muslims it is the Qur'an that demands obedience. For many it is the belief that one should obey their own conscience and for others a simple obedience of legislation is enough.

In humanity's march towards freedom there is no escaping obedience and as long as we are to live this life in a mathematically inclined universe then we must obey those laws of the universe such as gravity and time. If we are to continue living amongst each other in civilizations of cities and towns and villages then we must obey the laws that dictate proper cooperation amongst us. We must obey a very primal and basic law which is to survive and therein lies the conflict for if we are to survive we must flourish and prosper. If we are to flourish and prosper then we must know what to obey and what to disregard as there are many people who would come to you in the name of tyranny and demand your obedience and there is no survival in that. There are higher powers of law than the petty little desires of a tyrant and it is those laws that guide us as people, that command we rise and stand as people and expand outwards and only disobeying that which is contrary to our survival. Obedience is as it should be, a survival mechanism but as individuals we must know when to obey and when to rebel. Understanding the difference and when to choose one over the other is the key to flourishing and prospering
