it is best to eat charbohydrates and some kind of protein after you get done working out. for weight management you would eat less carbs and more protein, and for athelets more protein is recommended.

Generally speaking carbohydrates should be eaten before working out. And complex carbohydrates should be avoided as much as possible (depending on the goals of your routine). Carbs that go unused in the body will generally be turned into fat, so the idea is to burn them through exercise. Carbs will be metabolized after a workout (depending on your current metabolic rate). However not as much as if they were taken beforehand.
