Being friends first is the best way to go. You are more likely to work out any differences and make the relationship last longer than if a couple get together in the heat of the moment as strangers.

Downside: If things don't work out, you risk losing a friend as well as boy/girlfriend.

It is really a personal choice, know the risks and know your heart.

If it is for practice or you both decide it is okay to do then yes. But if it is because you fancy them and you don't know how they feel I would no. It can damage friendships. You really have to think about what you want to get out of this; if you kiss and they don't want to you could loose them, or if you then decide it was a bad idea what will you do? Talk to your friend about it before you do anything.
