While not every college program of study requires a language, it would be to your advantage to take one in high school and continue it at the college level. It is a fact, that individuals who are bi-lingual have an advantage within the work force.

Within the US, the second most prevalent language is Spanish. The biggest growing market in the world right now is Chinese, with its big markets opening up. It would be great to have that ability!

A: It is very advantageous to take a language in high school. College admissions looks not only at what is required, but at what you've taken initiative to do that was not required. Even if you did not continue study of that language, the process of studying a language is helpful if you study another language later. You will develop and use new neural pathways. You will enjoy being able to understand and use foreign words and phrases.

You will never be sorry for something you studied/learned. You will only be sorry for the things you did not learn.

If somebody wants to major in science in college then is it a good idea to do physics instead of a fourth year of a foreign language?

I feel as if the person should do Physics instead of 4th year in foreign language. [EDIT] I'd say take the foreign language course instead because colleges like to see that you have 4 years of one foreign language. If you want to major in physics, then wait until college to start on your physics major. Until then, focus on getting into college first.
