The answer depends on the reason for the hysterectomy. If done for control of endometriosis, using Birth Control might make sense to decrease pain. But there is no need for pregnancy prevention after removal of the uterus, and no need for estrogen support if the ovaries are still in place.

Can you get cysts after a total hysterectomy?

No, as an oophorectomy removes the ovary you cannot get an ovarian cyst. However, this is only the case if both ovaries are removed.

What is a partial hysterectomy?

Total hysterectomy is complete removal of you fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus. We call it total abdominal hysterectomy, oopherectomy and salphingectomy. Hormone replacement therapy after a hysterectomy?

If you mean by complete a total hysterectomy (uterus and cervix) ans a salpingo (fallopian tubes) oopherectomy (both ovaries) then yes you will immediately go into surgical menopause. If one ovaary is left then this will not place you into menopause until nature takes its due course.

What structures are removed during a TAH?

total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), and supracervical abdominal hysterectomy (SAH). In a TAH, the uterus and the cervix are both removed. In a SAH, only the uterus is removed. Although your ovaries may be removed during a TAH or SAH, these procedures can easily be performed without removing your ovaries.

Does body cope with only one ovary after hysterectomy?

in most cases the ovaries are also removed in a hysterectomy. if not even when you menstrate only one ovary is working not both (usually). and each time doesnt necessarily mean it the ovaries switch off "working". so yes it is possible but if it concerns you dont be afraid to consult your doctor.

Can you still have a period after removal of the uterus?

No. A period is caused by the buildup of endometrial tissue within the uterine cavity. Without the uterus, there can be no efflux of tissue and blood, so no period. So long as you still have your ovaries, you will have normal hormones, however. I DISAGREE. I just had a hysterectomy - removal of my uterus only - and I am spotting on the calendar day that I was due for my period. My doctor told me that it is possible that I may spot from time to time as it's difficult to remove every single uterine cell from the abdominal cavity.

Does removal of all your ovaries stop your period?

Actually removal of all your ovaries does stop the period. Without any eggs present, there's no reason for the uterine lining to shed since it is caused by the eggs not being fertilized in time. No eggs in the first place, no need to shed the egg + uterine lining later.

A 50 years old woman with a partial hysterectomy can produce eggs?
