Pads are an absorbent piece of material - reusable pads are made from cloth whereas disposable pads can be made from cotton or wood pulp with plastic packing - these go into the underwear to absorb menstrual flow as it leaves the body. Disposable pads typically have adhesive on the back to stick the pads into place, whereas cloth pads typically have snap fasteners to hold the pad in place.

Tampons are an absorbent wad of material - reusable tampons are made from rolled-up cloth or natural sponge, disposable tampons can be made from synthetic sponge, compressed cotton, or compressed wood pulp known as rayon - these are inserted into the vagina to absorb menstrual flow before it leaves the body. Tampons are held in place within the vagina by the vaginal muscles.

You should use whatever you feel comfortable with.

At first it's best to use pads, if you want to use internal options consider safer options such as menstrual cups or softcups before tampons - cups are not only safer but a lot more convenient and reliable than tampons, also no need to use pads with cups as you have to with tampons.

If you want to use tampons be sure you understand the health risks and how to use tampons correctly to reduce risks of issues like TSS and vaginal infections. When you use tampons you still have to use pads as tampons can't be worn before your period, with light flow, overnight, if you have a vaginal infection, and you should alternate with pads as often as possible.

Well, tampons you can't really feel and pads it feels like you are wearing a diaper. Sometimes people just prefer tampons because when you get up with pads, it feels like there is a rush of blood flowing out. Tampons are more disposable and there's less chance of a leak. Then again to prevent leaks with a tampon is to wear a panty liner. But a way to feel alittle more fresh when your on your period is to bring some compack wet wipes from a brand such as always or playtex. It will just make you feel more clean and wash away all of the left or dried blood. I know it sounds revolting but no need to panic. So there for tampons are more disposable then pads. Thank you for listening to me blabber on. :)

Hi. I'm Phoebe.

A pad: A large (or small) Pad that fits into the centre of your panties, to absorb the blood that comes out of the vagina during a period. These pads are good for girls who have just started their period and are easy to get used to.

A tampon: A small rolled up peice of cotton that you put into your vagina, to stop blood coming through to your underwear, they can come with applicators or strings attached to them so you can pull them out. They can be quite a bit if a worry or uncomfortable. Tampons are better for more experienced or older women that know their period well. I wouldn't recommend a Tampon for girls who have just started there period.

Thanks :) Have a happy period =)

HELLO THIS IS KAITLYN

If your just starting your period i wouldn't use a tampon, tampons can cause TOXIC SHOCK with is deadly pads don't.

People say you have to wear baggy cloths when wearing a pad no u don't as long as you change the pad every 2-3 hours.

And yes you can go swimming on your period without a pad or tampon right after your done swimming go change and you should be fine i have done so before.

When your wearing a tampon for bed sometimes the string can get stuck in your vagina but don't freak out calm down this has happen before to my friend all you have to do is lay down spread your legs in a v position get a hand held mirior to were you can see your vagina and put your finger in it shouldn't take long to find the string.

When using a pad please remember to change the pad every 2-3 or the pad will overflow and it will stain your cloths.

have a great period lol

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!!!!!!! =D

It's all a matter of preference.

* Nothing is inserted like a tampon is, which can be difficult or painful for young girls particularly those whose hymen is still intact. * More coverage area, in case a tampon were to leak. * No risk of Toxic shock syndrome, which is caused by a tampon building up bacteria and being left in for far too long. * Sometimes it can be easier to sleep using a pad vs. a tampon.

* No bulky, diaper feeling as with a pad. * No smells as the tampon traps menstruation inside rather than holding it on the outside. * You won't see the menstruation when you go to the bathroom as you would if it were on a pad. * You can go swimming during menstruation with a tampon, but not with a pad.

It's a personal choice whether someone chooses to use tampons over pads or other menstrual products like menstrual cups - although for the record when using tampons pads should still be used.

Some people prefer tampons to pads because they are internal so less noticeable than pads, also allowing them to do a wider range of activities such as swimming, if people don't know about other menstrual products they can use like menstrual cups or softcups they will tend to chose tampons. Often people also only know of disposable pads which are very uncomfortable and unhygienic, other options like cloth pads or period underwear can be preferable to tampons for some people.

Can you menstrate with tampons and not pads?

No, if you use tampons you still have to use pads - it's not safe to wear tampons before your period or with light flow, and it's not hygienic to use tampons throughout your entire period so you should ideally alternate with pads or at least wear pads at night. Tampons dry-out vaginal tissues causing ulceration which increases TSS risks by giving TSST-1 toxins responsible for TSS a more direct route into the bloodstream - thus tampons shouldn't be worn without sufficient flow. Tampons encourage bacterial growth and prevent vaginal cleaning, inserting one tampon after another keeps bacteria within the vagina, using pads allows your vagina a chance to clean itself and heal.

They're CLEANER - wearing a pad is like wearing a diaper! * Tampons are not cleaner, the opposite is true, and only disposable pads feel like diapers. also you can get TSS from tampons which obviously isnt healthy :P

Do all girls have to wear tampons?

No, not all girls have to wear tampons and in fact there's little reason to use tampons when there are other options like pads or menstrual cups available. Girls often use tampons because they prefer them to pads and may not know that options like cups exist and can be much better than tampons. Some people cannot use menstrual cups so will use tampons when they need internal menstrual products.

Can toxic shock syndrome be prevented?
