Shredded newspaper can be used, but not with colored ink. There are also many "litters" and beddings that can be purchased at pet stores. Stay away from pine and cedar wood. Some good brands are "Yesterday's News," "Carefresh," etc.
Bedding for a mouse should not be as fine as sawdust but certain types of shredded wood, wood chips or wood pulp (e.g. recycled virgin wood pulp), usually hardwoods such as aspen, are fine to use. Cedar or pine should NOT be used because they contain harmful liquids that can damage any rodent's respiratory system. Corncob bedding should also NOT be used because it promotes Aspergillis Fungus growth and allows mold growth once it gets wet. It also is quite rough on mouse feet.
Good bedding
Aspen, Carefresh Brand, Shredded Paper, Megazorb, Ectopetbed, BedExcel, and Finacard.
Bad Bedding
Never use pine or cedar, avoid sawdust, and sand.
Bedding should be 2-3 inches deep.
pine shavings or news paper
Yes you can use sawdust provided it is made of pure pine sawdust. It should be noted that as it says in it's name sawdust is dusty and can cause respiratory problems in horses.
We use it in our barn. it is sufficient.
Bedding is better otherwise the sad will get in their eyes. Sand should only be used in a sand bath so they can clean themselves.
yes u can use sawdust with any breed of hamsters
No, some snakes will accidently eat some of the dust when swallowing the mice or what ever the food is and over time it can cause a blockage and some serious problems. The best is to get the carpet
Yes use pine bedding NOT sawdust it is very bad for there lungs if you need any advice on guinea pigs contact a guinea pig rescue not a pet store
I have found, the best bedding to use is sawdust. I have tried a few different types of bedding but none of them has been as good as sawdust. However, don't get the cheap dusty stuff, make sure that you go to a pet shop and get the specialised stuff, which is free of toxins, nails and is low on dust.
You should check the label on the bedding to see if that is safe.
I don't see any harm in it, I used to give my hamsters Kleenex for bedding. Although, you may want to buy bedding that is made just for your mouse at a local pet store. Some materials have dyes so I wouldn't recommend it. As the other poster said go to your pet store, or use cotton baton and wood chips.
There are plenty of bedding materials out there. Use what you like best. Aspen shavings are very nice.
The horse is eating the straw because it is either hungry or bored. A horse should have hay available at all times to prevent bad behaviours, ulcers, and colic. You can use a slow feed hay net to accomplish this. Another note is that straw is not necessarily the best bedding for horses it may benefit the horse to have it's bedding switched to pine shavings or even large particle sawdust (small particle sawdust is bad for them).
It might mean that the hamster has mites, especially if it is scratching patches of fur off. It could also possibly be an allergic reaction, make sure your wood shavings and bedding are hamster specific - you should not use sawdust for example. You should take it to the vet if it continues.
