The Protestants that settled in Massachusetts Bay Colony were persecuted in England. (You can go to England and see the jails where many of them were imprisoned.) The King sold a corporation a piece of property. The corporation made a deal with the persecuted group. They would go to Massachusetts Bay and establish a Colony. After 7 years, they would own 1/2 the land and houses. (That was the standard deal in those days.) Thus, they got out of England and the company made money.
