Well then, their instructors were incompetent. Those same teachers might be teaching other incorrect histories also, such as Abe Lincoln was America's first president and General Washington was the commander at Gettysburg in 1863 during the US Civil War. Whats the difference? Wrong information is wrong information no matter what the subject is.
Here's the correct answer: The cold war was about communism vs the free world (non-communists) which was brought on by the atomic bomb (hence the term MAD=Mutually Assured Destruction). Opposite "Cold War" is "Hot War" which means shooting, killing and destruction. Nothing happens in a cold war, just talk. Korea & Vietnam erupted during those times and it was shooting & killing (called wars or for the purpose of this discussion "Hot Wars"). Over what? Communist vs free world as stated in the beginning of this answer. So Nam & Korea were part of the cold war just as birds fly in the sky.
