Theodore Roosevelt.
Franklin Pierce
President Franklin Roosevelt. He had polio
Roosevelt
He was not able to stand for a long period of time without support and he was confined to a wheelchair.
He was a never a US senator. However, he was governor of New York and NY state senator before he was elected president.
Just because.....
That was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
That would be Theodore Roosevelt, who became president upon the death of McKinley but then was elected to another term. Richard Nixon was the next former president to be elected president without the benefit of being the incumbent president.
He was elected as the vice-president and became the president because the President took sick and died. He was the first president to take office without being elected to the position, and the press of the day called him "His Accidency" throughout his term of office.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was a physically challenged president. He suffered from paralysis brought on by poliomyelitis, more commonly known as polio. While he was president, Rooseveltnever walked without the aid of heavy leg braces, and he often used a cane. He spent most of his working hours in a wheelchair. BY: RAAMCRES
Theodore Roosevelt became president when William McKinley was assassinated. Chester Arthur became president when James Garfield was assassinated. Lyndon B. Johnson became president when JFK was assassinated. Andrew Johnson became president when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. But I assume you are referring to John Tyler, whose nickname was "Accidental President" or "His Accidency". He became president just 30 days after President William Henry Harrison died. Harrison's death was attributed to his giving the longest inaugural speech in history at the time, and did so without wearing a hat, causing him to fall ill and die just 30 days later.
