I worked for a small law office in Northern NJ where the "office manager" was not helpful to onboarding a new employee. By means of that, my first work day she extended the sentence, "SHOULD YOU NEED ANY ASSISTANCE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK!" silly me, i had.. it was my first day after all. So when i proposed my question about the one of the attorney's file programs i was then told, "I DON'T KNOW.. THAT'S NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY!". Okay, from that moment on it was CYA (cover your a**). She was such an unplesant, unkepT, rude woman that despite the fact that she made it abundantly clear through body language andspeech that she knew from the start she would get me fired. I am not paranoid, it was seen by the receptionist (bosses sister-in-law) who monitored the office calender, that oddly enough certain cases VANISHED! So how do you deal with a difficult person is a tough one... You remain professional, pleasant, and stay focused on the reason you took the Job in the first place.. Ask yourself this.. is that job a survival job.. or is it a career choice? Back to dealing with the difficult person.. she held alot of clout with the boss.. he was friends with her, she ran one of his deparments rendering him to not be in at 9:00. If you can sit down with the person and discuss the tensions that the best way to approach a difficult person.. it that is physically impossible and you get the vibe ( no eye contact, no communication.. not even good morning in reply back or good night) then ask yourself this.. does this job offer all that i need and want as a last stop on the gravy train?

On 3/24/10 i was terminated. I was called into my bosses office with the "office manager" present and was advised that i did not add a case to the court calendar.. remember folks, CYA.. i presented by printed calender to him and the "office manager" which was dated 2.5 weeks earlier from the date he alleged the case was not on the calendar and then stated, "I have zero confidence in you as a litigation secretary, and i cannot see how you can prepare me or my cases for trial when you make such stupid errors as this?!" Remember 2.5 weeks earlier I calendar was printed with the correct information on then POOF! it vanished. So my response to him was this, "I don't have any faith in 6 six people entering information into the calendar; but since this episode has taken place amongst other episodes, this is not a suitable office environment for me, i will graciously accept whatever you prescribe." I was dismissed. But nonethless it was better for me, i live in NY and do not wish to be double taxed.

You have to look to your past experience to answer this question. An example is:

A girl in school who did not like me approached me in the hallway, trying to pick a fight with me. I remained calm and did not let her upset me. When she made accusations to me, I let them slide and responded with calm, reasonable answers. She eventually let it drop and later, we became friends.

Another example is:

I worked at a convenience store and one customer was always hateful to me. She came in one day wanting to return a product because she did not like it. After asking the manager, I explained to the lady that we usually didn't accept returns for that reason after they are opened, but we were going to make an exception in this one case. She wanted a refund, so I gave it to her. She never was friendly to me after that, but she remained a frequent customer.

Are telephone numbers an example of personally identifiable information?

Yes, they are part of what is called "personally identifiable information" for the purposes of data security. Personally identifiable information is any data that could potentially identify a specific individual. Any information that can be used to distinguish one person from another or that can be used to pick specifics out of anonymous data can be considered personally identifiable. Especially in the cases of children, phone numbers are part of the personally identifiable information that should NOT be shared online in order to stay safe. (Telephone numbers are not unique to an individual and cannot be used as a form of ID.)
