Sounds like it is too far worn out. You need to get a new ignition switch. You may be able to find one at a wrecking yard cheaper than a new one. But you may have to have a locksmith make a key for the used one.
Switch off the ignition and hold IN the reset stalk under the speedo Switch on the ignition the release the stalk. Then TURN the stalk from under the taco clockwise and hold in position. Horizontal dashes should appear in the odometer. Finally switch off the ignition whilst holding the taco stalk in the clockwise position. The system has now been reset. When you switch on the ignition the service message should be cleared. Not a job for a one armed person ! Let us know if this works as I have never used this method. The first method I understand will work with or reset the CAN-BUS to the "fixed servicing interval" mode ?on the release the stalk. Then TURN the stalk from under the taco clockwise and hold in position. Horizontal dashes should appear in the odometer. Finally switch off the ignition whilst holding the taco stalk in the clockwise position. The system has now been reset. When you switch on the ignition the service message should be cleared.
To replace Ignition Switch, first you have to remove the old one. To do this you disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the upper steering column shroud by removing the five self-tapping screws. Remove tilt steering column lock lever, Remove lower steering column shroud, disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector, turn ignition switch lock cylinder to the "run" position, remove the two screws retaining ignition switch, and finally unhook the ignition switch from the actuator. Now to install the new one.Make sure that the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the "run" position. You can test for the "run" position by rotating the ignition switch lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the "lock" position. Hook up the ignition switch into the actuator. You might have to move the ignition switch slightly back and forth to align the ignition switch mounting holes with the lock cylinder housing threaded holes. Install retaining screws. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch. Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper operation, including start and accessory positions. Also, make certain that the column is in the "locked" position. Then Install upper steering column shroud. Install the lower steering column shroud and tilt steering column lock lever.
To remove the ignition cylinder on a 2000 Lexus RX300, first remove the vanity engine cover by unscrewing it. Disconnect the wiring connector by pushing the clip that holds it in place. Finally, remove the bolts that hold the ignition cylinder.
from a parts store, about 50 bucks, from the dealer about 85, i recommend the dealer pump, replaced 6 after market between my 96 and 97, finally got the factory pumps and both are running strong for 3 years now
Your rotors may be out of balance. When my 2001 Silverado was not only 3 months off of the dealers lot I had this same problem that persisted for sometime. The dealer finally realized the problem and changed out both front rotors.
Nothing.
First, turn on ignition and hold down right trip button while turning off ignition. Then, turn ignition back on and release right trip button. And then, turn left trip button to the right and release. Finally, turn off ignition. Service indicator should be reset when you next start the vehicle.
This happens a lot. We finally figured out to disconnect the battery and wait 20-30 seconds. I actually heat a "click" in the steering wheel/ignition area in the car and the key works fine.
The happiest moment in his life was probably when he was finally named chancellor, after his long struggle to get the position.
The Irish were finally represented in the house of commons
Our cub cadet would blow the 20 amp fuse on turning the key to the first position and then we put key in second position before plugging in a new fuse and it would also blow, so we turned the key all the way to the start position (all the way to the right and held it) while we put in another new fuse and voila! It started and we were at least finally able to mow! I assume then its something with the ignition that causes the fuse to blow on attempting to start it?
i changed the ignition relay, that wasn't it, changed oil sensor, that wasn't it, finally got a new distributor. that fixed it! and the check engine light that had been on forever finally went off!
