There was a recall on early MINI Coopers for the wiring harness underneath the front seats being too short.
When you slide the seats all the way forward, it caused the wires to either break or for the connectors to snap.
You might get a dealer to replace it with the newer harness and then reset the light for free. They actually should but not all will.
The only way to turn off the light is for a dealer to reset it once the wiring problem is corrected.
No an airbag will not deploy if the battery is disconnected
You can pull the airbag fuse, disconnect sir yellow wire at steering column that goes to the clockspring, or disconnect the battery neg cable. The last is foolproof but will clear out anything with a memory.
Driver's airbag module - on steering wheel. Passenger airbag module - dashboard, right side. Airbag control module - under center console in front of the gear shifter. Please remove the battery connections and wait AT LEAST 30 minutes before touching anything.
Disconnect the battery. It cannot blow without the battery. Same when putting it back. Make the electrical connections and install the airbag then reconnect the battery.
What does it mean when the airbag light and battery light on 1999 Ford Escort flashes?
All connectors relating to airbags will be yellow. Be advised airbags are dangerous, if you intend on disconnecting anything airbag related be sure to disconnect the battery to avoid any injury.
You always disconnect the battery before you take the airbag off. It is possible to have a spark when you unplug the airbag if you leave the battery hooked up. The same thing when you put it back . Reassemble the steering wheel before you hook the battery up.
Disconnecting the battery is the easiest way. Then disconnect the airbag.
Airbag, no, horn, it is possible.
It might
if you do not see or feel anything that could be an airbag.
I would not recommend airbag repairs for the diy'r. Take it to a professional. If you are still going to try, unhook the battery for at least 5 minutes before you begin.
