I had this same problem. It will only get worse with time. You will need to replace the latch assembly. (The part that catches the striker bolt)
Answer:
There is a simple fix. I used it to repair my Sport just 2 weeks ago.
There is a broken spring on the door lock. You will need to go the hardware store and buy a spring that has long ends. This repair can be made for less than $3.00.
Remove the door panel and locate the door lock cylinder just below the lock you will locate a rod with a yellow plastic fitting. Take one end of the spring an connect it to the rod then connect the other end of the spring to the clip that hold the lock in the door. ( this will give the needed lift to allow the lock to operate) Note that if the spring is to tight it will prevent the lock from working, readjust the spring and try again.
I have a pic that will help. If you need it I can email it to you.
Could be the interior lamp switch which is activated by raising the outside door handle or pressing a code button on the electronic door lock control system.
Too little information in your question! WHICH part of the vehicle inside/outside; interior/ exterior) of your Explorer are you referring to? update 9/6/12 It is called the navigation pane.
Inside is to outside as interior is to exterior.
Inside : Outside : : Interior : Exterior
The VIN is on a metal plate on top of the dash ( look through the windshield from OUTSIDE on the drivers side ) and also , open the drivers door and it is shown on an information sticker on the end of the door
There are two - both on the drivers side. Look under the vehicle, behind the drivers side front wheel. It is on the outside of the frame rail, more towards the outside of the vehicle. The second is behind it, same area, in front of the rear tire. Hope this helps.
