Transverse
It isn't clear which part of the engine should be called the front. Most likely the front of the engine would be side of the engine at the front of the vehicle.A transverse engine is mounted so that its crankshaft is perpendicular to the length of the vehicle. This is how most engines are mounted today.A longitudinal engine mounting has the crankshaft in the same direction as the length of the vehicle. This used to be the most popular way to mount engines as many older engines were too long to properly fit the other way.
They are called "faces".
They may be called lateral faces.
Faces
A Prismthe faces are called bases
The place where two faces (planes) intersect is called an edge.
The thermostat spring always faces the engine block and not toward the radiator hose. The spring end of the thermostat faces into the engine.
It is connected to the rear of the engine, which faces longitudinally in the vehicle. So the gearbox should be somewhere between the front seats.
Bank 2 is the side of the engine that faces the front of the vehicle, sensor 1 is the upper sensor, it is in the exhaust manifold
They are the lateral faces.
The side with the spring faces into the engine.
A polyhedron with 20 faces is called an icosahedron.
