Who told you that? No you can't ruin a car engine by running the air or heat while sitting in one place for an extended period of time. It's not good for the engine to sit for a long time running because oil builds up on the seals and such but that's about it.

Abusers are bad. Period. It is common for someone who has been abused to feel lonely when the abuser becomes absent, but it is because of the stress of change. If you feel yourself running back to your abuser, get help. The situation will only escalate otherwise.
