The eastern part of the Roman Empire (in the eastern Mediterranean) continued to exist for another 1,000 years. Therefore, the fall of the western part of the Roman Empire did not involve Alexandria which was in Egypt and, therefore, in the part of the Roman Empire which continued to exist.
