If you mean colonization attempts in what is now the USA ... in 1587 a group of some 120 men, women and boys left England bound for the Chesapeake, in what is now the state of Virginia. They were off-loaded at Roanoke Island, in what is now the state of North Carolina. Under the governorship of John White they re-established a settlement on the island that had been placed by two earlier reconnaissance voyages consisting of men only. The colony arrived in July and in August, shortly after the birth of Virginia Dare, John White left for England to secure more supplies. Upon his return in 1590 there was no actual trace of the colonists. Two rather ambiguous clues were found but no definitive details of where the colonists had gone. There are many theories and much conjecture about their fate. The colony is now referred to as "the lost colony".

Sir Walter Ralegh organized the first two Roanoke voyages but had little to do with the third.
