you need a new car. you need a new car.
that means both the relay and fuel pump are accuratelly working.
The relay supplies power to the fuel pump. the relay clicks on when key is turned to 'on' to power the pump.
BAD fuel pump relay.
Swap the fuel pump relay with another like relay in the fuse/relay center. If the problem with the fuel pump goes away, the relay was bad. If not, knowing GM fuel pumps, the fuel pump is the problem.
Your fuel pump relay is stuck in the "on" position which causes it to run constantly even if your truck is off. Just replace the bad relay. You may have two relays though if you have duel tanks.
Check to see that the relay is coming on first off. Touch the relay and have a helper turn the car on (not crank) You should feel the relay click. If it isn't clicking, then the relay is not coming on. If you want to check to make sure your pump isn't the problem, you can bypass the relay and try to start your car. Also make sure that you are getting spark. If you have spark but no fuel then your problem is a fuel delivery problem. There are alot of things to look into when it's a fuel problem. But start at the relay. That is what primes your fuel pump, then turns it on. Most likely if it's a new fuel pump, it isn't the problem, but it's always a possibility. An electrical problem could also be in the picture. And I;ve found that on my camaro, it is usually the problem.
If there a light on the instrument panel that says fuel cutoff relay that's on, then behind the passenger kick panel is a relay with a red button, push it and if it clicks and the fuel cutoff relay light goes off and you have fuel pressure you should be alright. If the relay doesnt click and the fuel cutoff relay light stays on then you probably have a bad relay. If the light goes out and you don't have any or enough fuel pressure then you need a new fuel pump or fuel filter and or both. also if you don't have enough fuel pressure you could have a bad fuel pressure regulator which is on the back of the engine. If you get the light to go off and it runs good then you have solved the problem. If the light goes out and it starts but does not run very well you should check the fuel pressure. Hope this helps. Bad relay, No power to relay, Wiring from relay to pump and our most likely problem is, the fuel pump is bad. changed it already
The relay is not the common problem on these vehicles. More likely the fuel pump.
Fuel pump relay is stuck. Replace it.
it is located on the firewall directly behind the distributor, there are 2 realys there it is the one closest to the drivers side. the 2 relays are identical, if you think the fuel relay is the problem you can swap the wires to the relay next to it and the problem should be fixed, if not then its not a relay problem
You should not bypass the relay. Repair the problem.
