Well since we don't know What you are driving, Make, Model or Year. Here is what My 2004 GMC Canyon Owner's Manual tells me. GM Oil Life System™ Press the reset stem until OIL LIFE appears (flashing)on the display. The GM Oil Life System™ shows an estimate of the oil’s remaining useful life. It will show 100% when the system is reset after an oil change. It will alert you to change your oil on a schedule consistent with your driving conditions. Always reset the engine oil life after an oil change. To reset the oil life system press and hold the reset stem while OIL LIFE is displayed. The system will reset and a beep will sound. The DIC does not replace the need to maintain your vehicle as recommended in the Maintenance Schedule in this manual. The oil change reminder will not detect dusty conditions or engine malfunctions that may affect the oil. Also, the oil change reminder does not measure how much oil you have in your engine. So, be sure to check your oil level often. See Engine Oil on page 5-13 for more information. Good Luck and Remember.

NO, the timing change is designed to last the life of the engine. It is normally changed when the engine is overhauled. Not other maintenance is required.
The Check Engine light has nothing to do with oil changes and if it is on you have an emissions problem. The Maintenance Required light indicates you need an oil change. You must reset that light manually.
The timing chain will normally last the life of the engine and no regular scheduled maintenance is required. It is changed when the engine is overhauled.
The Maintenance Required Light is not the same as the Check Engine Light. The Maintenance Required Light is telling you that there is scheduled maintenance that needs to be performed. It may mean it needs an oil/filter change. To find out what needs to be done look at the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual.
The check engine light comes on when the ECU detects a problem with the emission system. The maintenance required light comes on when some maintenance is required on the vehicle such as an oil/filter change.
