The American Revolutionary War began when shots were fired at American colonists (militia troops) in the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, on the morning of April the 19th in 1775. Further significant shots were fired later that same day in the town of Concord, where reinforced American militiamen defeated the British "redcoats" and then harried them back to Boston, from which they had set out the day before.
