i don't know this myself but the first answer that you need to know for sure is if your engine is an "interference engine". if it is, the cylinder head needs to be removed at least, for further inspection. what happens is when the chain breaks while the engine is turning, the crankshaft and camshaft still spin but out of sync. thus when the pistons come to the top of the cylinder (all at different times) and the valves are open at the wrong time......whamo .......one piston MAY have been damaged and a valve in the head likely got bent. replacing the whole engine is an option if necessary but my best advice as a former mechanic is make SURE you trust your mechanic and put alot of thought in how much the car is worth.
