I too have a 87 blazer and are currently working on my timing. Chiltons says to have 5 degree timing in it although it has little detail, if you get a book you might want to get a hanes. hope it helps
Is there no decal under the hood telling you what it should be? My '86 2.8 Chevy timing is 19 degrees BTDC. I don't know why there is so much difference between vehicles and the years. I'd think all 2.8s would be the same timing?? cheers.

Hi No the 1.o ltr 12v engine has a timing chain which should last the life of the engine.
The Jeep 2.5 ltr engine ran a timing chain in all years from 1983 to 2002. It is CLOYES TIMING COMPONENTS part #9-4023.
It is in the bottom of the over flow tank.
checking transmission fluid 3.1 ltr
This engine was famous for stripping the timing gear. It probably needs a new one but not easy to replace since you have to pull the camshaft to press the gear on.
