Make sure number one cylinder is on tdc compression stroke, pull the spark plug and place your finger over the opening, quickly bump the ignition and you will feel pressure blowing against your finger, not sucking. The crank pulley has a notch that lines up on the left front of the case at about 10 o'clock position. Line up the oil pump pulley notch with it's case marking at about 10'oclock on the left side as well, align the cam marking to it's mark on the head, also at about 10 o'clock. When attempting to install the belt ensure that the tensioner pulley is fully moved to the left and the bolt tightened down so it does not add tension to the belt. Install the belt in order, crank pulley, oil pump pulley then cam. Check all timing marks after belt is installed. When releasing and tightening the tensioner pulley, first turn the motor two camshaft teeth clockwise from the cam timing mark, (this adds proper tension.) Then release tensioner pulley, ALWAYS tighten the bottom bolt first, then the top. During these last steps of setting the tensioner pulley do not "check" the belt by hand or turn the motor counter clockwise as this will change the tension. All of my clockwise and left right directions are from the perspective of looking at the front of the motor or sitting in the operators seat.
The timing marks on a 3406E Cat engine are recognizable by the bumps formed on the cover of the engine. The cam gear is also an important component when lining up timing marks. If in doubt, it is always advisable to visit a car dealership whenever engine work is involved.
The timing marks on an Arctic Cat 375 is on the inspection plug. It is a plug that can be removed from the flywheel cover.
pin the engine on the flywheel. line the timing mark on the cam gear with the timing mark located on the timing cover. the mark on the cover is located at the top and is just a bump formed in the cover.
This is a very delicate procedure that needs to be done correctly. Make sure to visit a mechanic to ensure that nothing goes wrong.

The hole in the bell housing, on a C12 Caterpillar diesel engine, can be found on the bottom of the bell housing. The hole faces straight down.
Ignition timing has no adjustment on these bikes.
Information about industry grade Caterpillar forklift trucks can be found on the Cat LIft Trucks website. Cat Lift Trucks is the leading manufacturer of forklifts and lift trucks so they have reliable information.
The engine computer will try to adjust fuel and timing to make the after cat O2 sensor read properly. With no cat that will be impossible. This will cause the fuel mixture to swing wildly from rich to lean until the point that the computer sets a code. It will then run in a default fuel/timing setting that will be at a reduced power level with lower fuel economy. The engine computer will try to adjust fuel and timing to make the after cat O2 sensor read properly. An abnormal shift lever signal was detected.
Unless you have been officially taught how to do that, you should not be doing it.
Setting injection timing on a diesel requires specialized equipment, it should never be attempted if you don't know the procedure. You can easily end up with an engine that won't run or runs very poorly.
