might not be using the right plug or there is another iPod or device in the computer. If that didnt work try on another computer if there is not another computer around try to reboot/restart/shutdown your computer. If your ipod does not install your iTunes account or music holder/application might be having trouble. If so try the next day.
buy an IPOD
download and install iTunes, then plug it in to your computer let it bring up iTunes and then it's ready
plug your ipod to the computer, open itunes, go to the Store tab and click authorize computer.

Once the iPod is connected to the computer, double click the name of the iPod and it will let you edit the name.
You have you reboot the iPod. Meaning that all the songs, movies, data on the iPod will be lost. Then is will be unsynced. Or just don't let your friend connect their iPod to your computer.
I would delete it if I were you.
To let only one person listen to whatever sound is coming out of your computer, iPod, etc.
