∙ 14y agoContainment, or rather Eisenhower's Domino Theory which speculated that should Vietnam submit to Communism, then surrounding countries would also fall. Also, with the Truman Doctrine of 1947, the USA was bound inextricably to help countries trying to combat Communism.
