You need to give more information in the question. The automatic transmission Golf and Jetta II's (1985 - 1992) had a lot of problems with hot starting. Usually you have to replace the starter. Unfortunately it is much harder to get at than the manual ones.

lean ping ,,,vw's good for that ,over time the engine becomes lean and out of adjustment ..its a setting with the injected vw's. makes the engine run hot also ....
coil is wet
Most common problem is Fuel Pump... when it gets hot of working it stops working... when cools down works again.
i have one and if it wont start change the oil
A 2003 VW Passat will have no heat when the heater core is defective or obstructed. This prevents hot air from getting into the vehicle's cabin.
A classic VW BEETLE is a aircooled car, which means it is not cooled with water like modern day cars. You need to keep the vehicle in movement to keep it cool. The hot smell is very normal for a Vw beetle, just ensure that your oil level is right, then there will be no problems to worry about
If it is for the older air cooled engines, it means you are running hot and running hot means no oil.
