Valve clearance is not an issue with big-block VW engines (1.6L > 2.0L) as they employ overhead camshafts with hydraulic lifters (tappets). The lifters are self adjusting and maintenance-free, so there is no adjustment for valve clearance.
Tapping/rattling noises coming from the cylinder head generally result from a sticking lifter or excess valve-guide wear.
Lifters are not expensive and can be replaced with the cylinder head left in situ. It is also possible to strip, clean and rebuild lifters with little more than carbon-removing oven cleaner and a little patience.
torque setting for golf gti 2.0 8v
The 8v was 115BHP.
It was a option.
about 4qts
Yes, I have it done on mine. The MK3 2.0 gearbox fails when it gets to high mileage. The Mk2 1.8 gearbox is bulletproof.
96 gti 2l 8v=115bhp standard 96 gti 16v standard 150 bhp
the 16v is 150bhp and the 8v 115bhp.
i have an 86 vw gti with the 1781cc 8v engine and to my knowledge it doesnt have a egr valve you might have a different engine code but mine has no egr valve so good luck finding it
sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is broke
there is no t and its not 150hp its 125bhp it depends on which engine the gti has. the 2.0l 8v has 115bhp and the 1.8turbo has 150bhp (180bhp anniversary editions) :)
Check coolant level
You can easily define whether it is a 8v or 16v by lifting the bonnet,a 16v will have a outlet manifold on top of the engine with dohc 16v written on it.
