The statement holds a degree of validity, but must be measured against World History and not just a squabble between a stronger and a weaker neighbor in the name of American Imperialism. If blatant theft had been intented, then certainly all of Sonora and Baja California would have been included in the treaty. It is undeniable that the US acted in an Imperial manner, and that it took by force of arms what it wanted.
