Many say he was a bad president, but it was mostly bad timing. Before he became president he was head of Food administration and helped to feed millions of starving central Europeans. As soon as he became president the great Stock Market crashed and everyone blamed him for that. Then what really made people mad at him was when veterans gathered in Washington known as The Bonus March. Despite the fact that they were peaceful Hoover dispatched the police to remove them. When a riot broke out he ordered federal troops to help contain them. Instead of being contained the commander used tanks, tear gas, bayonets, and ordered troops to set fire to their shacks. A few veterans and even a few infants were killed, and once again hoover was blamed because he did not publicly criticize the commander. Over all Hoover was blamed for many things he had no control over simply because he was president.

He'll never be recorded as one of our best presidents, but he was a long way from being a truly "bad" one. Hoover had definite ideas about what was best for the country, and many theorists agreed with him. But the malignant groundwork that had been laid financially under the blind eye of his predecessor Calvin Coolidge collapsed early in Hoover's presidency. It was Hoover's "Let business work it out - it won't take long" philosophy that embittered so many Americans to him. And when Roosevelt came along with a completely different message, people were more than willing to assure Hoover would be a one-term president. We have had worse presidents than Herbert Hoover. Far worse. But Hoover was the wrong person in the wrong place post-1932 election day.

No, not at all. He was president during the Great Depression so he recieved a lot of flack because of his laissez faire ideas in government. People even nicknamed the poor areas "Hoovervilles"
