I think so but not so sure

IMPROVEMENT.

Lee was a scholar of military art. In particular he studied the campaigns of Julius Caesar and the use of field fortification as a pivot of maneuver in battle.

At the beginning of the war Lee was not known as a strategist of great skill, although he was esteemed as highly competent and skillful military.

Sent with insufficient forces on the front of West Virginia, he could not do anything to prevent its conquest by the Federals.

His reputation as a strategist began when he was called to replace Joseph Johnston, who was seriously injured at the beginning of the Peninsular Campaign. It was there that he for the first time applied the theories relating to the employment of field fortification in a maneuvered battle, elaborating the theories based on studies done on the art of the Roman military.

Later he developed up to high levels other important aspects of the strategy as the strategic intimidation, the art of converging different contingent on the battlefield at the right time, to divide their forces in the presence of the enemy, eliminating the numerical superiority of his opponents, attacking them on their weaken points and leaving the enemy in the greatest uncertainty about which would be his next move.

I hope it can help you.
