Yes. He was born about 470 and died in 399 B.C. He was an unusual, influential, and controversial philosopher. Not a lot is known about his life. He was Plato's teacher. He thought of himself as a practical man interested in living well. He believed in the self-discipline of moral reason to free us from distracting desires and in a life of enquiry. He questioned himself and others to discover better ways of thinking and living. He didn't write any books. He was executed, supposedly, for being impious and corrupting young men, but probably really for encouraging people to think for themselves, which is always a threat to established political authority.
