Thomas Hutchinson was very unpopular among those who were considered radical in the colonies, such as Samuel Adams and Benjamin Franklin. The reason for his lack of popularity is that he was very conservative and was in favor of remaining loyal to the crown instead of supporting the changes which so many were fighting for. He was instrumental in starting the Boston Tea Party by insisting that the tea be delivered despite strong opposition.
