Well i guess if you believe in greek mythology (as in, if your religion is believeing in the Greek Patheon presided by Zeus), then yes Prometheus discovered fire and gave it to mankind (not an especially more ridiculous theory than other religion)

The historical evidence however, indicate that fire was discovered by humans after lightning would burn some trees. They would keep red hot ashed in a stone pot so that everytime they stopped for the night or for a longr period of time, they would light dry branches by putting them in that pot.

The first man made fire, from shocking flints over tinder, was said to be around 800 000-1 000 000 BC No, Promethius didn't discover fire. The myth goes that Promethius's brother, Epimethius, was given the job to create all organisms on earth. He gave the best defence and offence mechinisms to the animals but didn't have anything left for humans. So, Promethius took over the job and had to give humans adequate characteristics to survive. One of the things he did was give fire to mankind because before it was a possession only of the gods.
