The White House, the official residence of the President of the United States of America, was constructed in 1800 and inhabited by each subsequent president until the War of 1812, when during the Burning of Washington on August 24th, 1814, the British Army set fire to the White House and burned it to the ground. The White House was re-constructed after the war and has been in continual use since 1817. Therefore the White House has been burned down once, by the British Army in 1814.
